As part of the D. Y. Patil Group which is committed to social development, the D. Y. Patil Sports Academy (DYPSA) is keenly aware of its responsibilities to the community. Some of our major initiatives are described below.
Jobs for talented sportsmen and sportswomen
Financial insecurity haunts many talented youngsters wanting to undertake sport as a career. Many discontinue playing because they – and their parents - worry about their career prospects if they fail at sport. India has a relatively weak sporting culture partly because of this insecurity.
As a country lagging well behind on the global sports stage, India cannot afford to lose sporting talent. Hence, financially disadvantaged and deserving players are offered jobs at one of the D. Y. Patil Group institutions.
Sports events for those disadvantaged
In collaboration with RedDust , we’ve organised sports clinics in cricket, rugby, football and basketball for orphaned children. We have also conducted matches for the physically challenged.
Benefit matches
We organised a benefit match in Kolhapur for Shri Ramakant Achrekar, Sachin Tendulkar’s coach. The entire India squad, led by Tendulkar, took part in the match, resulting in a benefit award of Rs five lakhs for Shri Achrekar.
Development of Navi Mumbai
In the early 1980s, the D. Y. Patil Group was among the first organisations to set up institutions in Navi Mumbai, an underdeveloped region in those days. The Group created jobs by establishing educational institutions and sports facilities, thus helping contribute to the development of Navi Mumbai. The town now enjoys the reputation of being a centre for excellence in sports and education in Maharashtra.
Moreover, the development of Navi Mumbai has attracted further investment in leisure, entertainment and other industries. As a result this has, to some extent, reduced the pressure on Mumbai city.
Donations
We are committed to continually improving our sports infrastructure, so that the facilities are always on-par with world-class standards. Moreover, we also provide some form of financial security to several players. All this requires significant financial resources, and hence, we are happy to receive donations for the Academy. If you would like to make a contribution, please contact Shri Avinash Salvi on 98211 57847.
