The tournament, for the Dr. D.Y. Patil Cup, was conducted for the first two years on the university ground. However, the tournament was so successful that matches were moved to the Dr D. Y. Patil stadium in the third year.  The tournament, played according to international rules, regularly attracts 100,000 spectators over the week during which the matches are played.

Some of India’s most prominent corporate sides have taken part in the tournament. These sides include Air India, Tata Sports Club, ONGC, Indian Oil, BPCL, State Bank of Travencore and the State Bank of Mysore. Many of these teams featured several India superstars including Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma, Praghyan Ojha, and Yusuf Pathan.
